Atelier Zanolli, Museum für Gestaltung Zürich — Textiles, Fashion, Applied Arts, 1905–1939. Airbrushed silk fabrics, opulently embroidered cushions, vividly coloured beadwork and woodwork: with the Zanolli family estate, the museum preserves a rare treasure. Under the label Atelier Zanolli, this family created in Zurich a fantastic world full of graceful and joyful products. Their work reveals both cultural and stylistic influences ranging from the avant-garde to the era of “spiritual national defence”. Despite the sometimes difficult conditions of the period, the Zanollis always succeeded in combining their desire for artistic self-realisation with commissions for major textile companies and department stores. The exhibition tells the eventful story of this family who immigrated from Italy and presents the objects they designed with enormous attention to detail.
