His images attract attention, unsettle and provoke: as a photographer, creative director and picture editor, Oliviero Toscani made history and turned advertising communication upside down. Toscani became famous through campaigns for the Italian fashion house Benetton that were as iconic as they were controversial. After studying at the Zurich School of Arts and Crafts, Toscani immersed himself in New York street photography and became part of Andy Warhol’s legendary Factory. In Europe he established himself as an advertising and fashion photographer who made visual provocation his trademark. The exhibition encompasses Toscani’s entire body of work and invites discussion of social conventions and current topics such as gender, racism, ethics and aesthetics.
