Things break in our everyday lives all the time. Instead of repairing them, we often buy a replacement immediately. The consequences are growing mountains of waste and increasing resource scarcity with global repercussions. How well an object can be repaired is determined already in the design process. In mechanical engineering, for example, maintenance and spare parts are an integral part of design practice; in product design and architecture, however, they are the exception. It can be done differently. Repair is no longer merely an emergency solution, but a serious cultural, social, and economic practice that offers a counter-model to the throwaway society. The exhibition presents the vision of a repair society and examines the role design can play on the way there.
