The forest—used by humans for centuries—has been increasingly destroyed with growing industrialisation since the 19th century. Soon, figures such as Paul Sarasin and later Bruno Manser emerged and advocated strongly for the preservation of the forest. The exhibition also shows our relationship to the forest through representations in literature and art: once elevated by the Romantics as a refuge from civilisation, the forest is now addressed by artists in the context of climate change.
