The samurai: for more than 700 years these legendary warriors shaped the history and culture of Japan. Their myth tells of bravery and loyalty, of power and intrigue. Their ethos and the aesthetics of their armour continue to fascinate to this day. “The Samurai Legend. The Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Collection” presents the history of the samurai through their armour and weapons, which reflect the social, military and artistic developments of the time—from the beginnings of the warrior class through the eventful rule of the sword nobility to the traces of the samurai in modern popular culture. At the heart of the exhibition are loans from the renowned private collection of Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller, Dallas (USA). These are complemented by outstanding weapons from the collection of the Bern Historical Museum. 04.11.2021 – 05.06.2022
