With the fresco by Augusto Giacometti, Amtshaus I houses one of the city’s most significant works of art. As part of the overall renovation, we were commissioned to conceive and plan a new lighting system. We replaced the old, conspicuous luminaires with a discreet lighting solution. The light now begins precisely above the sandstone columns and gradually intensifies up to the apex of the domes. By determining the optimal colour temperature for the work and using LEDs with outstanding colour rendering, the painting—once perceived as deep red—reveals an unexpectedly fresh, colourful world. Custom constructions such as barriers with integrated luminaires that illuminate the four wall paintings, along with backlit windows, complete our interventions.
