The BLS station in Bern Europaplatz (formerly Bern Ausserholligen, built in 1984) was showing its age and needed to be redesigned and upgraded. In addition to the striking new scenographic design, the new lighting also enhances the station’s appeal. Clear lighting guides passengers down the stairs to the lower-level station, where they can now enjoy a welcoming atmosphere. Using light fixtures mounted on poles for open platforms and on ceiling brackets for covered areas, the floor is evenly illuminated and, where applicable, the ceiling is brightened. The new lighting fosters a sense of well-being and security. It is a successful overall design that goes beyond mere functionality, taking into account people’s spatial and psychological perceptions, and thus providing real added value.
