This special project began with our participation in the ideas competition “New Stage Lighting for the Great Tonhalle.” The complex starting conditions—fixed positions, limited luminaire weight, the need to avoid any glare, and the requirement for powerful, uniform illumination of the entire stage—posed a major challenge. We turned the design constraints and high demands into the guiding elements of our proposal—and won the competition. The luminaire consists of three light sources, three technical elements that are adjustable and have different beam angles depending on their position. They are enclosed by a curved plate of anodised aluminium, forming a simple yet elegant luminaire shape. This constructive simplicity significantly reduces the fixture’s weight. The end result is a uniformly illuminated stage with above-average illuminance on the surfaces of the music stands and a balanced ceiling appearance in which the new luminaires integrate discreetly into their historic surroundings.
