New building on Heimplatz in Zurich, with an underground connection to the existing Kunsthaus. Artificial-lighting concept and planning across all phases for all interior spaces, as well as the outdoor areas including the Art Garden and façade lighting. Currently the largest art museum project in Switzerland, it was conceived from the start of planning in 2011 for permanent and temporary exhibitions. In close collaboration with the architects, we developed a lighting concept that works with only a few clearly defined luminaire types. The impressively large, high entrance hall is powerfully illuminated with cylindrical surface-mounted luminaires; in circulation areas, cloakrooms, and similar spaces, matching but significantly smaller fixtures take on this role. The exhibition spaces can be arranged freely using specially developed mobile luminaires. This applies both to the diffuse general lighting and to the technologically pioneering accent lighting. Our goal was to create lighting tools that make it possible to present art in a wide variety of ways.
