Overall planning for the interior and exterior areas of the new Natural History Museum St. Gallen, including the lighting of the permanent exhibition. The new museum was conceived as a daylight museum. One particular challenge was to coordinate daylight and artificial light in a coherent way. We developed a special support system so that mobile lighting could be used in the “roof gables”. The calmly lit circulation areas are set in deliberate contrast to the dramatic lighting in the exhibition rooms. In parallel with the building’s lighting design, our exhibition specialists also planned and focused the lighting in the display cases and walk-in exhibition objects.
