At the end of the 1990s, Renzo Piano created for Fondation Beyeler in Riehen near Basel a museum of restrained and tranquil aesthetics. A light glass roof floods the museum with natural light. At that time, the exhibition rooms were additionally fitted with an elaborate secondary ceiling that directs diffuse artificial light into the space alongside the daylight. With the renovation of this extraordinary museum building and the associated renewal of the lighting, the aim was to maintain a high standard of light in terms of both quality and technology. Wallwashers integrated into the secondary ceiling create indirect general lighting that complements the daylight with excellent colour rendering. As a result, the experience of both the space and the art remains consistently pleasant regardless of the time of day.
