Formafantasma: Cambio, Museum für Gestaltung Zürich — tree, wood, human. It is omnipresent, versatile, and carries a green image: at first glance, wood seems unproblematic and a sustainable choice. Yet behind it lies one of the world’s largest industries. The design duo Formafantasma investigates the global timber industry and the role design plays in the current climate crisis. From the globally expanding trade of the 19th century to today’s impact on the planet’s biosphere, the two designers trace the path of this widely used material. The exhibition establishes connections to science, technology, and politics and, through a wide range of media, objects, and analyses, appeals to the ecological responsibility of the design disciplines. The exhibition Formafantasma: Cambio, Museum für Gestaltung Zürich is presented in collaboration with Serpentine Galleries, London. It was initiated and organised by Serpentine Galleries and curated by Hans Ullich Obrist and Rebecca Lewin.
